One man's junk is another man's treasure!
My sister in law introduced me to these finely crafted animals that are made in South Africa. A non-profit organisation called MonkeyBiz, supply coloured glass beads to woman in the townships of Capetown, with a desire to create employment and the empowerment of disadvantaged woman in this area.

One of a kind, unique pieces are bought off the woman and sold at retailers throughout the world. All profits go back to the community to ensure a sustainable income, HIV/AIDS initiatives, soup kitchens, burial/funeral assistance and recycled rubber projects are in
place to support the community. Check
out the MonkeyBiz site!
Here is my little collection!...I purchased the apple green animal with pink and brown detailing (top) recently from a shop called Plumbago in Shannon and absolutely love it! Then only a few days later, I was having a crap day and my mum (who is an avid op-shopper) text saying she had a gift for me from the Sally's. I thought oh heck...what is it going to be?! as we have veeerrryyy different tastes ...but out comes this small pink and orange Monkeybiz animal!! Not only did she manage to find this at the Salvation Army, but she only paid NZ $4.50 for it!...which is an absolute steal. I am unsure who would possible consider turfing one of these beautifully made art pieces at the Sally's, but I am surely not complaining.
Check out the exhibition pieces on the website and write a comment and let me know what you think!

I Love Rob Ryan...

Happy New Year Everyone! Well this year has started off with a bang - quite literally, as our family fired a 12th century cannon on New Years, which included a fireworks extravanganza. All of 2009's crapness was written on paper and put in the cannon and fiiireeed away, so 2010 is going to be great. Well I am new to the blogosphere, but am already enjoying thinking of little things to share :-) One of my favourite artists is Rob Ryan - check out his stuff...it is amazing! and his shop called Ryantown. He has even done work for the covers of Time and Elle magazines. I visited his shop 'Ryantown' in London this year (trapesing all the way to Shoreditch!), but left without buying anything! (what was I thinking) and have decided this year to purchase a piece for my very own. This is one of my favourites....tell me what you think? He does beautiful screen printing and laser cuts out of paper...the detail is phenomenal.

Happy New Year!
2010... The beginning of the blog. I have started this blog to share the pursuit of 'beautiful things' with those who also have an appreciation for the lovely things in life. After holidaying at the beach with family this Christmas, we spotted the most lovely batch at Mount Maunganui which I wanted to share with you as my first post. Isn't it so fun
looking?
